"Bass Player's Blues"

She said she didn't need me
'Cause she had a good left hand
Now I'm sad and lonely
While she's singing in her band
Now I'm sad and lonely
While she's singing in her band

For a while we made sweet music
But nothing went as planned
And the love songs that I sang for her
Were never in demand
The love songs that I sang for her
Were never in demand

Somehow I thought we'd always be together
And she could lay her music down on me
She said, "We must be hearing different drummers.
Why don't you beat it and just let my rhythm be?
Why don't you beat it and just let my rhythm be?"

She showed no sign of regret
I guess she didn't understand
How much that she had hurt me
When she told me I was canned
How much that she had hurt me
When she told me I was canned
